These terms are the agreement between you and us for using Dockleaf. We’ve tried to keep them short and plain. Please read them, together with our privacy policy, before you use the app.

Who we are

Dockleaf is run by Nathan Hutchinson, an individual developer in the United Kingdom, trading as Dockleaf. In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Nathan Hutchinson. “You” means the person who has a Dockleaf account.

You can contact us at [email protected]. We’ll reply by email to the address you write from. Help and answers to common questions are on our support page.

What Dockleaf is

Dockleaf is a personal skin and food diary for iPhone. It helps you keep a record of food, skin, symptoms, treatments, sleep, mood and your surroundings, and helps you notice possible patterns over time, for yourself or for someone you care for.

Dockleaf is not medical advice

Please read this part carefully.

  • Dockleaf is a diary. It is not a medical device and it does not give medical advice.
  • It doesn’t diagnose, detect, test for or treat any condition, allergy or intolerance.
  • Patterns, summaries and reports in Dockleaf are possible links to talk through with a doctor or other health professional. They are not conclusions, and they may be wrong.
  • Never start, stop or change a diet, medicine or treatment because of something Dockleaf shows you. Always talk to a qualified clinician, such as your GP or doctor, a pharmacist, or a dermatology or allergy specialist.
  • In an emergency, call your local emergency number straight away. For example, if someone has signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of the throat or tongue, or difficulty breathing.
  • For urgent medical help that isn’t an emergency, contact your doctor or your local health advice service.

Dockleaf is not monitored by anyone. We don’t read your diary, and nothing you log will alert a doctor, a carer or us.

Accepting these terms

By creating an account or using Dockleaf, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the app.

Who can use Dockleaf

You must be 18 or over to create a Dockleaf account.

Dockleaf is meant to be used by adults. A parent or carer may keep a diary about a child they look after; the child doesn’t use the app themselves. If you keep a diary about someone else, you’re confirming that you have the right to do so, for example because you’re their parent or carer, or because they’ve agreed.

The AI features

Some features use artificial intelligence (AI), provided by Anthropic, as explained in our privacy policy. The AI turns what you say or type into diary entries, and writes daily summaries, weekly pattern reports and clinician reports.

  • AI can make mistakes. Entries, summaries and reports may be inaccurate or incomplete, or miss things that matter. Please check them.
  • You stay in control of what’s saved. Nothing from Quick Log is added to your diary until you confirm it, and you can edit or delete entries at any time.
  • The AI can suggest a change to a diary’s allergen list, but the list only changes if the diary’s owner approves it.
  • Reports, including the clinician report, are a summary of what was logged. They are not a medical assessment.

Your account and keeping it safe

You’re responsible for your account and for keeping your sign-in details private.

  • You can switch on an app lock, so Dockleaf asks for Face ID, Touch ID or your phone passcode before showing your diary.
  • You can switch on two-step sign-in, so signing in needs a code from an authenticator app as well as your password. If you do, keep your recovery codes somewhere safe. They’re how you get back in if you lose your phone.
  • If you lose both your authenticator app and your recovery codes, email [email protected] from your account’s email address. We’ll check it’s really you before we help, and we may refuse if we can’t be sure. This protects your diary.
  • Tell us straight away if you think someone else has got into your account.

Your diary is yours

You own what you put into Dockleaf. We don’t claim any rights over your diary.

To run Dockleaf, we need your permission to store, copy, process and display your content, and to send it to our service providers as described in our privacy policy. You give us that permission (a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence) only so we can provide the service to you and the people you share with. It ends when your content is deleted, except for any copies we have to keep by law.

  • You can export a copy of all your diary data at any time in the app (Settings → Export).
  • You can delete your account and all its data at any time in the app (Settings → Delete account). You don’t need an active subscription to do this.

How we handle your personal information, including health information, is set out in our privacy policy.

Shared diaries

If you use Cloud Sync, you can invite one other person to diaries you choose. You decide what they can do: View; Add & edit; or Add, edit & delete.

  • You’re responsible for choosing who you invite and for having the right to share that diary with them. Remember they’ll see everything in it, including entries written before they joined.
  • You can change their access or remove them at any time.
  • If you’ve been invited to someone else’s diary, you can leave at any time. The diary belongs to its owner, and what you wrote in it stays there when you leave.
  • People you invite don’t need a subscription. Their use of AI features in your diary counts towards your plan.
  • Everyone using a shared diary must follow these terms.

Subscriptions and payment

Some features of Dockleaf, including the AI features, need a subscription.

  • Apple sells and bills subscriptions through the App Store. Your purchase is also covered by Apple’s terms. We never see your card details.
  • Free trial: new subscribers can try Dockleaf free for a period, as shown in the App Store at the time.
  • Prices are as shown in the App Store at the time you subscribe.
  • Renewal: your subscription renews automatically until you cancel it.
  • Cancelling: you can cancel at any time in your iPhone’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel a subscription by itself.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple, under Apple’s policies. You can ask for one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
  • When a subscription or trial ends, the features that need a subscription stop working. You can still export or delete your data.

If we change the price of a subscription, Apple will tell you in advance and, where the law or Apple’s rules require it, ask you to agree before you’re charged the new price.

The beta

Before Dockleaf launches on the App Store, it’s available as a test version through Apple’s TestFlight.

  • Features may change, appear or disappear during the beta.
  • There may be bugs, and things may not always work as expected. Please keep your own copy of anything important, and tell us about problems at [email protected].
  • Beta testers aren’t charged.
  • Beta places are limited, and we may end the beta, or your access to it, at any time.

Using Dockleaf fairly

Please don’t:

  • break the law, or use Dockleaf to harm, harass or deceive anyone;
  • keep a diary about someone, or share their information, without the right to do so;
  • try to get into accounts or diaries that aren’t yours, or get round any security or access controls;
  • copy, reverse-engineer or resell the app, except where the law allows it;
  • overload, disrupt or attack Dockleaf or the services it relies on, or use automated tools to access it;
  • upload anything harmful, such as viruses.

Availability and changes to Dockleaf

We work hard to keep Dockleaf running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of faults. It may sometimes be unavailable, for example for maintenance or because of problems with our service providers.

We may update, change or remove features to improve Dockleaf, to keep it secure, or because the law requires it. If a change will significantly affect a paid feature you rely on, we’ll tell you in the app beforehand where we reasonably can.

Features that keep your diary on your phone still work without an internet connection. Features that need our server, such as AI, Cloud Sync, sharing and local weather, need a connection.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when Dockleaf changes or the law does. We’ll change the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we’ll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you don’t agree with the new terms, you can stop using Dockleaf, cancel your subscription and delete your account.

Ending this agreement

You can stop using Dockleaf at any time. To end this agreement completely, delete your account in the app and cancel any subscription through Apple.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we have to by law. Unless there’s a good reason not to (for example, to stop harm or for legal reasons), we’ll tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.

If we ever stop running Dockleaf, we’ll give you reasonable notice so you can export your data.

Our responsibility to you

Dockleaf is a tool for keeping a record. Decisions about health, diet and treatment are yours to make, with a qualified clinician. Everything Dockleaf shows you, including anything written by AI, is a possible link to talk through, not advice. It can be wrong or incomplete, so please don’t rely on it on its own.

So, as far as the law allows:

  • We’re not responsible for decisions about health, diet or treatment made because of something Dockleaf shows, or for mistakes or gaps in entries, summaries, patterns or reports, including those written by AI.
  • Dockleaf is for personal, private use. We’re not responsible for any business losses, such as lost profit or lost business opportunity.
  • We’re not responsible for loss or damage that we couldn’t reasonably have foreseen.
  • Our total responsibility to you for anything else is limited to the amount you paid for Dockleaf in the 12 months before the problem happened, or £100, whichever is higher.

What these terms can’t change

The law doesn’t let any business limit some things, so nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law says can’t be limited. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer. Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk) can tell you more about them.

Apple and the App Store

These terms apply to the Dockleaf app downloaded from Apple’s App Store (including through TestFlight). Apple requires us to tell you the following:

  • Who the agreement is with. These terms are between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Dockleaf and its content.
  • Licence. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use Dockleaf on Apple devices that you own or control, as allowed by the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions. A diary shared with you through Dockleaf’s own sharing feature can be used as described in these terms.
  • Maintenance and support. We, not Apple, are responsible for maintenance and support. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for Dockleaf.
  • Warranty. If Dockleaf doesn’t meet any warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app. As far as the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Dockleaf. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses caused by a failure to meet a warranty are our responsibility, within the limits set out in these terms.
  • Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claims from you or anyone else about Dockleaf or your use of it. This includes claims that it fails to meet any legal or regulatory requirement, claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws, and product liability claims.
  • Intellectual property. If anyone claims that Dockleaf or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and resolving that claim.
  • Legal compliance. You confirm that you’re not in a country that is subject to a US Government embargo or that the US Government has designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you’re not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Third-party terms. When you use Dockleaf, you must also follow any third-party terms that apply, such as your mobile network’s or internet provider’s terms.
  • Contact. Questions, complaints or claims about Dockleaf should be sent to us at [email protected].
  • Third-party beneficiary. Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept these terms, Apple has the right (and is treated as having accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

Apart from Apple and its subsidiaries as described above, nobody else has any right to enforce these terms.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you want to bring a claim, you can do so in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland, you can also bring a claim in the Scottish courts, and if you live in Northern Ireland, in the courts of Northern Ireland. If you live elsewhere, you keep any rights you have under the consumer laws where you live.

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.

If you have a problem, please email [email protected] first. We’ll do our best to put it right.
